Image Dithering (E Ink)
A technique to simulate grayscale tones on limited-color E Ink displays using pixel patterns.
Image dithering is a process used to simulate smooth tonal gradients and grayscale values on displays with limited bit depth, such as E Ink panels. Because many E Ink displays support only 16 levels of grayscale or fewer, continuous photographic tones must be converted to patterns of black and white pixels that simulate those tones from a viewing distance. Well-dithered E Ink images can appear photographic while being stored and displayed as simplified binary data. Artists preparing work for E Ink need to understand dithering to produce the best output.
